Justin Hartley’s Plans After ‘This Is Us’ Involve an Incredible Mexican Destination and Delicious Cocktails.
9/16/21 – Happy Mexican Independence! In coming up with this year’s celebratory cocktail, we challenged our mixology team with a specific set of rules: 1) The drink must display all three colors of the Mexican flag, and 2) It must include at least one ingredient commonly grown in Morelos.
Wow, did this one not disappoint. A beautiful mix of coconut, cinnamon and ripe avocado (grown widely in Morelos). It’s an absolute must try.
The name of the drink “Cry of Dolores” is an ode to the call of arms given by Roman Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla in Dolores, Mexico on 16 September 1810 while ringing the church bell and essentially triggered the Mexican War of Independence.
1/19/21 – Just as Avila is the spirit of Morelos, The Cuernavaca is its’ signature cocktail, named after the state’s capital. Created by Morelos native (and owner of Cuernavaca cocktail bar Pichirilo) Christian Rubio, this drink aims to be a classic as popular as the Margarita or the Paloma, but taste twice as good. Simple and beautifully fresh, The Cuernevaca is packed full of flavor but still lets the Avila be the star of the show.
11/11/20 – It’s been a year… We all need a little escape, so it was fortunate that our good friend Patrick Frohoff from Koreatown’s The Line Hotel met up with us at one of our favorite LA bars, The Semi-Tropic. He came up with this coconut-based cocktail that makes you instantly feel like you’re on vacation. It’s tropical but still spirit-forward; light but still packs a punch; sweet but dry; refreshing but… well, you get the point. This one’s a winner, and super easy to make at home. Enjoy!
If you flip back a few chapters in the history books to ancient, pre-Hispanic Mexico, you’ll find that the agave plant was deeply rooted within the cultures of that time period and was surrounded by a mystique that’s as fascinating as it is dynamic.
10/9/19-The ideal fall cocktail for when you’re home for the holidays, this drink is like a boozy pumpkin pie in a glass. There are existing hints of spice already found in Revel reposado, not to mention the beautiful bourbon whiskey notes from its’ aging process, all of which bring out the spices found in this homemade pumpkin spice recipe. The sweetened condensed milk adds a decadent richness to the drink, making it the perfect fireplace companion
9/26/19- It’s always a fun day at the office when bartenders come by to play around in the R&D Bar. For Episode Two (up now on IGTV), Nightshade’s Dan O’Reilly came up with this delicious fall-inspired cocktail that combines Revel Avila Blanco with fig, vanilla, cinnamon and prickly pear. We were blown away by the incredible bright orange color and even more so by the flavors. Just the right balance of sweet and tart on this one.
8/28/19– For the very first episode of our “Revel R&D Bar” series (find it on our Instagram TV), Jessica Morgan from Gold Diggers Hollywood stopped by to whip up this stunning tiki concoction. She mixed Revel Blanco with this delicious, funky rum from Oaxaca, Mexico (because, of course). Citrus, guava, tiki bitters and egg white to balance it out left us wondering two things — why don’t more people use guava juice in cocktails, and why does summer have to end??
